2018 – 2019 Scholarship Recipients

A&WMA Gulf Coast Chapter proudly awarded the 2018 – 2019 academic year Environmental Science and Engineering Scholarship in the amount of $4,000 each to the candidates below. The candidates offered an impressive academic and/or research excellence, passion for the environment, community engagements and involvements through volunteer activities and/or participation in professional organizations.  


Chelsea Parada

Chelsea is a sophomore Environmental Geoscience major at Texas A&M University. She loves spending time exploring the outdoors – nature inspires her to mitigate the detrimental effects of pollution on the natural world. She hopes to become a geochemist in an effort to combat anthropogenic climate change.


Michelle Rowan

Michelle is a Professional Science Master’s student in Environmental Analysis at Rice University with a focus on renewable energy and sustainability. She is currently interning as an Environmental Analyst at Emission Advisors Inc. in Houston, Texas. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of the Philippines and has previous work experience as a geologist, Business Development Officer and a Science Research Specialist in disaster prevention and mitigation.


 Pavani Gonnabathula

Pavani is a Ph.D. student in Environmental Toxicology at Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas. Ms. Gonnabathula holds Master’s degree in Industrial Pharmacy from Kakatiya University, India. To fulfil her dream to be a toxicologist, she is working in Dr. Momoh A. Yakubu’s laboratory investigating the effects of emerging contaminants at very trace level on biomolecules using animal models and advanced analytical technology.
